A new year means new trends. This year there is not just one color, there are two! Something that never happened before

Each year the institute of colors, Pantone tells us what the new color of the year will be. The past year we have enjoyed all shades of beautiful marsala. They always surprise us the next year but this time something new happened. For 2016 we will not just get one color, but two! For the first time ever, Pantone has chosen two colors to become the color of the year.

What’s most fascinating is the story behind the colors and how they amazingly fit our current society. How do you name color of the year when there are two? Just by their description would be best, which is Rose Quartz and Serenity. Pantone explains why these colors are so perfect for 2016:

“Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”

What a beautiful colors, don’t you think so too? Though it surprises me, with marsala I immediately had a good feeling and these are such totally different colors. The light, pastel colors don’t seem to be the right allover general color, but I guess it’s possible. Can’t wait what fashion has in store for us? I see tops and blouses in these colors, also some lovely prints. But how about the other items? Like shoes, coats and pants. We’ll see!

What will these colors do? Aren’t they too light for interior. Or too bright and summer-ish for fashion? I’m curious to see the outcome. What I do know is that there will be a lot of nuances in the usage of materials. Silky and flowy materials like (fake) silk and satins, metallics but also heavy structured fabrics will make these colors come alive.
