What are the trends today? It’s fall, what to wear
When the seasons change so does my wardrobe. Despite the weather doesn’t have such massive changes, I can really look forward to a new season. The fall collection are inspired by the 1990’s. For me it’s a trip down memory lane. Gosh, I feel old with my 34 years now.. I must admit that I loved this period, it’s when I discovered my style. Let me show you the biggest trends.
trends
The first thing to notice is that we see lots of solid colors and not so many prints. This season the details is in the fabrics. By using different materials and structures you create dept. You see crinkled fabrics and plisse, but also different knits. metallic finishes, flanel and velvets. Some print which you see are army print or geographic prints like big checks or strong stripes. The romance is in the embroideries. The silhouettes are simple but elegant. The difference compared to the 1990’s is that the synthetic fabrics are nowadays much better developed and wear a lot more comfortable to the skin. These are my favourites. Feel like shopping? velvet
A fabric which I really didn’t like before is velvet. So you see, sometimes when you grow up your fashion taste can change. I love velvet but only when its worn the right way. You see lots of tops and dresses in velvet, but I also love this coat. Make sure to check the type of velvet you shop, not all qualities are the same. Also there are smooth velvets and the rough ones. Take care with these fabrics as they might show more then you want to show.
lace & mesh
The lace trend is the one that’s been around the longest. This winter we see the eyelash lace. The hems of sleeves, tops ad dresses have these shape lace, half moon with little frays. Mesh is the other option, which is more casual. Transparency is the trend. This way you automatically create the layer effect (unless you like to walk around naked), which is on trend. Like this small strap dress worn over a top.
collars & frills
Preppy, preppier, preppiest. Top and dresses with cute collars, ruching, bindings and frills. The Victorian touch to these items make them so romantisch. Great combined casual with leather or heavy knits. Go for the classic look with lace or plisse. The easiest way to wear trends, you can go either way. This is also seen in different materials, from flowy silk like fabrics up to heavy knits like this jumper below.
metallic & plisse
Something we’ve seen in spring already is even more represented in the coming collection, metallic and plisse. These fabrics are shiny, even metallic finished or look like they have been. It’s perfect for the holidays, but styled differently it can be worn in an every day look as well by combining it with faux leather or knits. The plisse is a classic fashion piece, but the crinkle plisse is a refined variation.
to trend or no to trend
Fashion has nothing to do with a dress size. Anyone can wear trends, you just have to find where to shop it. The items I’ve shown above are all available in plus size. Click the photo to go shopping. Fashion is my passion, but not my commitment. I just love fashion and wear only what I like and love. Not because it’s hot, but because I like it! Of course there are more trends this season, but that’s for next time.
